Roger Cochrane would like to thank all the volunteers and organizers who represented the welcoming spirit of St. George’s Tennis Club so well during last week’s Open House/Try Tennis event.

With the experienced coaching skills of Nick Vincent and St. George’s Head Coach Jakob Orlik, we managed to improve the tennis skills of over 50 newer players to the game and successfully bring in new members to the club.

Last month we honoured outstanding contributions to our sport by publicly honouring the TNS winners in the following categories at the Support4Sport Awards: (Part 3/3)

Support4Sport Sport Makes A Difference Award
Truro Rolling Aces:
The Truro Rolling Aces Wheelchair Tennis Program is a powerful example of how sport can create meaningful change in a community. What began as a single introduction to wheelchair tennis three years ago has grown into a fully inclusive, year-round program, which provides athletes with an opportunity to be active, build confidence and develop strong social connections. The Truro Tennis Club secured funding to purchase a fleet of five wheelchairs, transform the clubhouse into a fully accessible facility and build a program attended by six regular participants and a team of dedicated coach-volunteers.

This is an incredible group of people, using tennis as a vehicle to facilitate upliftment, social connections and healthy, active lifestyles. Congratulations on winning this award!

Last month we honoured outstanding contributions to our sport by publicly honouring the TNS winners in the following categories at the Support4Sport Awards: (Part 2/3)

Junior Female Athlete of the Year
Yael Kupitman
Yael was the most improved player in the competitive program in 2025. She earned ITF (International Tennis Federation) points after competing at two ITF Tournaments in Costa Rica. This was a rare feat and for her, at the age of 13, marked a meaningful step forward in her tennis career.

Junior Male Athlete of the Year
Jack Naas
Jack won the Junior Atlantic Championships and went on to finish fourth at the Canadian Junior Nationals. He was then named to the Tennis Canada Junior Prospect Team, one of only four players in the country to receive the distinction. His work ethic, focus and commitment to improvement set him apart and position him as a future leader in Canadian tennis.

Last month we honoured outstanding contributions to our sport by publicly honouring the TNS winners in the following categories at the Support4Sport Awards: (Part 1/3)

1. Coach of the Year
Carlos Castillo
Shortly after coming to Canada from Ecuador, Carlos joined the Headstart Tennis team of coaches in Clayton Park. He started with a small group of kids and expanded participation by drawing in friends, families and new players of all ages and skill levels. He’s equally comfortable introducing adults to their first rally as he is guiding players toward tournament competition.

2. Volunteer of the Year
Leo Donovan
Leo has been central to the growth of tennis in Ingonish Beach, the beautiful area of the province known as North of Smokey. In 2025, he obtained his Instructor certification, secured grant funding, purchased new equipment and personally delivered a 6-week program which welcomed over 30 players of multiple age groups. Despite dealing with significant differences in skill levels, Leo manages to keep people coming back to the program. Through his energy and personal investment in each participant, he epitomizes the spirit of community sport.

3. Official of the Year:
Eva Przybylska
Eva has played tennis for many years and became an umpire in 2016. In a short while, she earned the competence of officiating at Open, Masters, ITF Junior and wheelchair tennis events across the region - and approaches the task with a calm and composed on-court demeanour.
