REDHORSE makes photo and video documentaries. Because Redhorse is not your average horse. We’re a bunch of documentary makers, journalists, photographers and videoreporters breaking out of their comfort zone. WE TELL STORIES – that inspire. Or upset. About everything, but most likely about human rights issues, current affairs, adventurous, social, cultural or ecological themes. INDEPENDENT BUT TOG
ETHER we encourage each other to greatness. We look for beauty, solitude, undiscovered places. Truth. Contrast. Reporters floating on creativity, that don’t need anything but the world, a camera and a horse, maybe. WE ARE BUILDING A PLATFORM of documentary makers, journalists, photographers and (video)reporters to start up cross pollinations between the people we call the ‘Redhorse Riders’. People who have the same drive as we do, and are interested in setting up cooperations. We actively contribute in supporting each other, to expand our networks exponentially with every new rider that comes riding along. As a group of horses we ride into the same direction, everyone on the horse (s)he knows best. And we make a lot of noise. Want to be a Redhorse Rider? Shout: I want to be a Redhorse Rider! HOW IT ALL STARTED/ THE STORY OF THE TAXI In february 2009 videoreporter Roel Nollet and photographer Bart De Bock went off to the Cordillera, a mountain region in the north of the Philippines, for a documentary on political killings and disappearances. Together with Lynn Heye, from the ngo New World, they form the ‘Redhorseteam’, named after a popular Philippine beer, that – so goes the myth – is brewed by a Belgian recipe. The team quickly gets the hang of it. The documentary is called ‘Taxi Filippino’ and gets nominated for the Concentra Award. A prestigious international award for outstanding video journalism. Meanwhile photographer and cameraman Gieljan van Goethem finishes a roadtrip trough Finland. From Helsinki in the south towards Lapland in the high north, he searches for the essence of a journey; forlorn landscapes and rough portraits. And so Redhorse does not return to the stable.
