It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Geoffrey Dougall a passionate Maritime Historian whose dedication & commitment to preserving Williamstowns rich maritime heritage has left a lasting legacy.

Geoff, together with like-minded individuals was instrumental in saving the Williamstown Maritime Precinct at the former Melbourne Harbour Trust/Port of Melbourne workshop site in Williamstown.

He played a key role in managing the site under the umbrella of The Williamstown Maritime Association Inc (WMA) and was heavily involved in establishing the clubrooms that became known as The Pirates Tavern in 2004.

The precinct would later evolve into what is now known as The Seaworks Foundation.

As President of the WMA for a number of years, Geoff provided strong leadership and unwavering support for Maritime preservation iniatives.

Following his retirement he devoted most of his time and energy to the Maritime Museum at Seaworks, a project he helped establish from its inception.

Through his tireless efforts, the Museum has acquired a significant collection of maritime artefacts, ensuring the valuable pieces of history were preserved for future generations.

Geoff will be missed as The Maritime History Guru.
