// This week is Reconcilation Week, 27th May to 3rd June. It is a time for all Australians to learn about shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each individual can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

What better way to start the formalities of our annual presentation tomorrow than the launch of our Reflect - Reconciliation Action Plan.

Some of our volunteers have been having a clean up of our old gear.

Thank you to Wardy, Wayne, Pete, Brie and Rod who braved the rain and wind to get it all done after a few years of being in storage.

Thanks to Lance from Kempsey Skip Bins for the skip bin.

Also big thanks to the Fergo’s for the storage, we look forward to having you in for dinner soon to show our appreciation.

We have kept the bow, stern and cross bars of the surf boat so watch this space for displaying them upstairs.

// As volunteers we sometimes put our lives in danger for those who need our help. And most times we don’t think twice about the potential consequences in tough conditions.

This one really hits close to home.

Our thoughts go out of those who have lost their lives in this tragic accident as well as their families and the entire Marine Rescue organisation.

Last night was the darkest night ever experienced by Marine Rescue NSW.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers answer the call for help 24/7 and last night six members from Marine Rescue Ballina did just that. They launched with a single mission, to save lives on the water and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty off the South Ballina break wall.

Tragically, two of our volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said the devastating loss is a solemn reminder of the risks faced by volunteers who serve their communities.

“These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of the deceased, their fellow crew members, the brave radio operators who handled the difficult communications during the incident, the entire Marine Rescue NSW family and the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are supporting our volunteers and their families through professional counselling and chaplaincy support.

“We ask that the privacy of those involved and their families be respected during this difficult time,” Commissioner Andrews said.

Thanks to our members who came down for the additional patrol for the ANZAC Day public holiday.

🌊 Gotch4Life 24 Hour Row hosted by Ritual Strength and Conditioning

🌊 Queenscliff SLSC Annual Nippers Camp

🌊 Weekly free pool training sessions for members

🌊 Visited five local primary schools for water safety talks

🌊 Hosted the second Badaar Nippers program with students from Kempsey South Public School

🌊 Hosted the Surf Life Saving NSW Country Championships

🌊 Awarded the Kempsey Shire Council Reconciliation Award at the Australia Day Awards

🌊 Provided Water Safety for the Trial Bay Triathlon Inc

🌊 Held our second successful ‘Pink Patrol’

🌊 An awesome Nippers presentation

🌊 Silver Salties at maximum capacity of close to 100 members

🌊 Laid a wreath at the ANZAC Dawn Service

🌊 Held our first Youth Patrol
