GET TO KNOW THE PRODUCER (and performer)
of The Gipsy Club Cabaret, Ronicka!
1. How long have you been dancing for?
I’ve been dancing since early childhood. My grandmother from my Middle Eastern side was a bellydancer. We used to dance together. She taught me how to listen and to interpret the music into motions and emotions. She was a very talented dancer.
2. What styles of dance do you do?
Throughout my childhood I have attended various dance classes. I would say that bellydancing was my basis and the initial dance style, but in addition I attended ballet, jazz, contemporary and folk dancing classes.
I am a Tribal Fusion dancer and choreographer. It’s a contemporary form of bellydancing that allows the dancer to use different styles of music from all over the world, from vintage to modern tunes. I am mostly connected with this dance style because it allows me to incorporate several dance genres and express my mixed background (Eastern Europe and Middle East) and my love to a broad music genre.
In my Tribal Fusion bellydance choreography I incorporate a rich vocabulary of dance style and moves from bellydancing, folk, Indian and Latin.
3. Tell us about the shows you have produced in the past.
In the past I have produced the shows Arabian nights and Gypsy Jazz. Both shows were ongoing on a monthly basis.
All of my current and previous productions are a cabaret style of entertainment. They include dance, live music and sideshow / circus acts.
4. What does 'gypsy' mean to you?
There are two interpretations to the word Gypsy. It can either be used to describe the Romany Gypsy which are an ethnic group known for their nomad lifestyle, but can also be used to describe a free-spirited person who is travelling and exploring the world with lack financial means.
The Gipsy Club Cabaret is not about ethnicity or racial groups, the show is simply about free spirited dance, sideshow performers and entertainment inspired by Eastern Europe and the Balkans, bringing to stage performances that are inspired by the street art of the Balkans.
5. Why did you create The Gipsy Club Cabaret?
Since I arrived in Australia, I always had the feeling that Australians where intrigued and curious about the Balkans and Eastern European music and culture in general. I was amazed to find out how many Aussies watch the Eurovision, even though did not have a representative in the competition (until recently).
The Gipsy Club Cabaret is created to provide a different type of entertainment. The one that provides a stage to unique artists that would normally won’t be seen on a normal cabaret show settings. The show is designed to provide great entertainment to all people. It’s a celebration of free-spirited world music (Balkan inspired), dance and entertainment.
