🚨 BREAKING: GERMAN PRESENCE IN MERIMBULA CONTINUES TO GROW 🇩🇪

Authorities are reportedly monitoring a significant increase in German activity around Merimbula, following reports that a vehicle carrying several kegs of German-style beer is heading towards the town.

The shipment is believed to be destined for the South Coast Tap House in the Galleria Arcade, where preparations for Oktoberfest have been underway for several weeks.

Witnesses have already reported suspicious quantities of blue-and-white bunting being delivered to the premises. There have also been unconfirmed reports of large quantities of Breadtzels being delivered.

The latest arrival of kegs is expected to significantly increase the German presence inside the Tap House, with intelligence suggesting the beer may include Helles, Märzen, Munich Dunkel and maybe even a Doppelbock.

When questioned about the operation, the Tap House "Kommandant" refused to confirm exactly how many kegs were involved, saying only:

“ We know nuzink! NUZINK!”

Investigators described the response as verrry interesting…, but attempts to obtain further information were unsuccessful.

Authorities say the situation is expected to escalate from 19 September, when Oktoberfest officially begins.

Members of the public are advised not to panic. However, anyone entering the Galleria Arcade over the coming weeks should be prepared to encounter bier, questionable German accents and increasingly frequent cries of “PROST!”

We will continue to monitor the situation. 🇩🇪🍻

🍺 PROFESSIONAL BEER TASTERS REQUIRED!🍺

Do you love beer?

Well, we may have just found the job for you.

Your duties will include:

🍺 Tasting all of our beers on tap — strictly for “product knowledge”, of course.

📚 Learning about the beers, the styles and the breweries that make them.

🌾 Learning about brewing, hops, malt, yeast and all the things that turn four simple ingredients into something delicious.

🗣️ Talking to people about beer and helping them discover something new.

🍻 And yes… you will actually have to serve the beer too.

Some employers might call this job a Bartender.

At the South Coast Tap House, we prefer the title Beer Educator.

You don't need to already be a beer expert, we can teach you. What we're looking for is someone who is passionate about beer, enjoys talking to people and wants to learn.

If that sounds like your kind of job and you're available for flexible shifts during the week, send us a message or drop in and have a chat with us.

Warning: extensive "product testing" may be required. 🍺📚😜

🇩🇪🍺 OKTOBERFEST IS IN SEPTEMBER. CONFUSED?

It does seem like the Germans may have made a fairly obvious scheduling mistake.

But there is actually a very good reason.

The original Oktoberfest was held in October 1810, celebrating the marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese. The celebrations culminated in a huge horse race on 17 October on a meadow outside Munich.

The celebration proved so popular that they did it again.

And again.

And eventually Oktoberfest became an annual tradition.

For decades it really was an October festival.

There was just one problem.

October in Munich can be cold.

The days are shorter, the evenings cooler and, unsurprisingly, people quite liked the idea of drinking beer outside when the weather was a little warmer.

So in 1872, Oktoberfest was moved forward into September to take advantage of the milder late-summer weather and longer days.

The festival still finishes in October — and nobody bothered changing the name.

Which is probably a good thing.

Septemberfest doesn't quite have the same ring to it. 😂🍺

This year the real Oktoberfest runs from 19 September to 4 October in Munich.

And we'll be celebrating at the South Coast Tap House from 19 September as well.

Prost! 🇩🇪🍻

🇩🇪 GERMAN INSPIRATION. SOUTH COAST BEER. 🍺🇦🇺

Our journey towards Oktoberfest has already started — and our beer brings together Germany and the South Coast rather nicely.

🍺 High Peak Pilsner is a special Oktoberfest release from Broulee Brewhouse inspired by one of Germany's great beer traditions.

But there's a very local twist.

🌿 It's brewed using hops grown right here in our region by Ryefield Hops at Bemboka.

So while the inspiration comes from Germany, part of the beer's story comes straight from the NSW South Coast.

And it's pouring at the Tap House right now.

It's not the only German-inspired beer already making an appearance either.

🍺 Swordfish Brewing Schwarbier - An easing drinking Black Lager with toasty notes

🍺 Broulee Baltic Porter is a dark, strong lager with roots around the Baltic Sea.

🍺 Reub Goldberg Brewing Machine - Kirtabier. Inspired by the traditional Bavarian beers associated with Kirta, the local church festival or Kirchweih.

These beers are pouring as part of our current rotating tap lineup, so there's no guarantee they'll still be around when Oktoberfest begins.

Think of them as the warm-up. 🍻

We're gradually turning Das Tap House a little more German as we get closer to our own Oktoberfest celebrations.

And there are plenty more German beers and beer stories still to come…

🇩🇪 Munich has die Wiesn.
🇦🇺 Merimbula has Das Tap House.

Prost! 🍻

🚨 UPDATE: OUR BEER CROSSING IS ALREADY ATTRACTING INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION 🍺

Well, our post about Merimbula’s new beer access infrastructure certainly got some attention. 😂

And it appears word has traveled all the way across to the UK.

Just days after the new pedestrian crossing opened, these four lads from Liverpool were reportedly spotted giving it a workout while carrying a few South Coast Tap House takeaways.

Apparently they had a long walk home to Abbey Road ahead of them.

We can neither confirm nor deny whether they came in for Something, ordered a Six Pack, or simply needed a little Help! choosing their beers.

But there is one important thing we'd like to point out…

See — we told you the crossing works both ways. 🍺🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️

Come in thirsty.
Leave safely.

🚨 PSA: COUNCIL COMPLETES MAJOR BEER ACCESS INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT

After years of planning, community consultation and traffic modelling, local council has unveiled its latest major infrastructure project — a new pedestrian crossing on Market Street providing safer access to BEER! 🍺

The strategically positioned crossing delivers pedestrians across Market St and directly into the Galleria Arcade, just metres from the South Coast Tap House.

Until now, thirsty residents and visitors have been forced to navigate Market Street traffic unaided, risking significant delays on their journey to the bar.

Those days are over. The new crossing provides a clearly marked, traffic-controlled route towards their final destination.

South Coast Tap House management has denied lobbying for the project, but acknowledged the positioning of the crossing was “exceptionally well thought out.”

Early indications suggest the project could significantly improve beer accessibility in the Merimbula CBD.

Motorists are reminded to give way to pedestrians, especially the thirsty ones.🍻

DISCLAIMER: While we acknowledge that providing direct access to the South Coast Tap House may not have been Council’s primary motivation when choosing the location of the new crossing, we have no evidence to completely rule it out.

We encourage everyone to drink responsibly — and importantly, please remember the crossing works in both directions. 🍺🚶
