K1
Born in the thriving coastal suburb of Frankston, Sean Bateman (K1) displayed a natural affinity for music from an early age.
Immersed in sound, he quickly began exploring multiple instruments, first picking up the guitar before uncovering a powerful ability as a vocalist.
His formative years saw him fronting several progressive rock bands, where he honed his stage presence and developed a deep understanding of musical composition and performance. While his early influences were rooted in live instrumentation, it was the rhythmic complexity and raw expression of hip hop that truly ignited his creative drive. Transitioning into production, K1 began crafting beats from his home studio, earning recognition from local crews for his distinctive sound.
This momentum led to the formation of Tenfold, a relentless and energetic hip hop trio that built a strong reputation through hundreds of live performances across Victoria and nationally. Their rise saw them share stages with respected international acts such as Loop Troop and underground icon Sage Francis.
Beyond performance, K1 became an influential figure in the local scene as both a curator and promoter, co-founding the renowned “End of the Line” parties. These events quickly gained cult status within the hip hop community, attracting a wide range of talent and earning K1 a personal cosign from Sen Dog of Cypress Hill.
Over time, K1’s musical evolution expanded beyond hip hop. A deep and growing passion for electronic music, particularly the immersive textures of techno, dub techno, deep house, and progressive house, opened new creative pathways. Drawn to the sonic depth and hypnotic rhythms of dance music, he began producing within these genres, applying his refined ear for groove and atmosphere to craft emotive, layered compositions.
This shift naturally led K1 into the DJ landscape, where he could explore and express his productions in a live setting while further sharpening his technical and creative abilities. DJing became both an extension of his artistry and a tool for growth, allowing him to connect with audiences in real time and continuously evolve his sound.
With over 15 years of experience, K1 stands as a versatile and accomplished recording engineer, producer, and performer. Now fully focused on his solo work, he independently writes, produces, records, and mixes all of his material. His music—whether rooted in lyrical expression or instrumental storytelling—explores themes of real life, relationships, and spirituality, always with an underlying intention to elevate consciousness.
Blending the raw authenticity of his hip hop origins with the expansive energy of electronic music, K1 represents a unique and evolving artistic voice. Driven by passion, discipline, and a relentless pursuit of growth, he continues to push boundaries, both in the studio and behind the decks, marking only the beginning of what promises to be a powerful and far-reaching musical journey.
