Huon Hooke shines a light on the Orange wine region.

Just don't confuse its wines with “orange wine”, a type of wine made with white wine grapes in which the juice has stayed in contact with the skins for a day or two or three.

In a hot country like Australia there are two ways to find a cool grapegrowing climate: go south or go up. Orange is definitely an example of ‘going up’.

A Chinese wine company just sold its huge holdings in the Swan Hill and Murray Darling regions that span Victoria and NSW. Making Australian for the Chinese market was no longer feasible under the current trade tariffs.

Weilong Grape Co, China's third biggest wine producer, has announced its plan to sell over 320 hectares of its vineyards in Australia for RMB 660.6 million (AU$143 million), one year after China's punitive tariffs on Australian wines have crushed its grape dream.
