Guitar For Me was inspired by the memories of my fathers (Albert) love for music and watching my grandson (James) playing the guitar. My father played the piano by ear. You could hum or tap a tune and my father would pick up on the tune. The pianola that we had was the gathering point for our family get t
ogethers. Songs were played and sung, much merriment was had by all. I can remember the anticipation of my cousins awaiting their turn to push on the pianola’s peddles to make the musical scrolls turn and start the pianola to play the melody of the song. The words of the song were actually written on the scroll, so you could sing along. I found it a source of frustration. I could never get it tuned properly and it never sounded right, no matter how hard I tried. Well I was about 9 years old at the time. Life was more adventurous then, more things to do. However, I always like listening to music. I like the drums, piano and guitar the most. My brother (Alan) was pretty good on the mandolin; I think he inherited dad’s musical talents. One Christmas, my wife and I visited our grandchildren interstate. Our second eldest grandchild (James) was eager to show us something that he was learning. From his bedroom he carried out a guitar, which as about three quarters of his height. He sat down in the lounge chair with the guitar in is his lap and began to play. His little fingers deftly moved up and down the fretboard whilst he strummed the strings with confidence. He was pretty good for a child just learning to play and he could also read the music. He played as he read the different scores from the music sheet. I was really impressed by his efforts and this inspired me to present Guitar For Me to the world. I did this to inspire others to learn guitar and/or new playing styles, and to also share in the love of music. So… if you think that you would like to learn how to play guitar, then give it a go.
