Pale straw. A whisper of copper. A wine with quiet character.
Get to know one of the most famous varieties on the Mornington Peninsula: Pinot Gris.

Pinot Gris is a colour-mutation of Pinot Noir: same lineage, different skin. That pink-grey hue is what gives the wine its subtle range in the glass, from pale lemon to a soft blush-copper.

On the palate, expect nashi pear and white peach, a fine thread of green apple, and, in some cases, even a touch of ginger spice. It carries more weight and texture than the typical crisp white, without losing its freshness.

Grown here on the Mornington Peninsula, where Port Phillip Bay meets Bass Strait, our cool maritime climate mirrors the conditions of Alsace, ideal terrain for a variety that rewards patience and precision.

A small distinction worth knowing: Gris and Grigio are the same grape, expressed differently. Grigio, light and steely. Gris, riper and more textural. Ours is unmistakably the latter.

Explore our full range of Mornington Peninsula Pinot Gris, available by the bottle in store.

A must-try? Definitely Tussie Mussie Pinot Gris, currently open for tastings together with their Balnarring Pinot Grigio. This could be the ultimate tasting test. Which one is better?

Some boards are just snacks. Ours is a moment. 🍷

Our Signature Charcuterie Board brings together silky Prosciutto di Parma and mild Soppressa, alongside two cheeses selected from our rotation: Gorgonzola, double-cream French brie, truffle Manchego, aged Gouda, Monte Cabra goat cheese steeped in red wine.

Alongside: sweet pear paste, house-made chilli pickles by .made, olives and antipasto vegetables, finished with crisp crackers or warm sourdough.

Come for an early lunch. Linger into the afternoon. Let it carry you into an evening date. However the day unfolds, this board was made to meet it.

Every Friday, we slow things down further with our Weekend Warm Up:
Charcuterie Board for $35, alongside $9 house wines and $9 local tap beer.

A quiet toast to the week well spent.

Some wineries make great wine. Others change the conversation entirely. .winemakers did both 🍷

Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy were there at the very beginning of what the Mornington Peninsula has become. In the early 90s, when very few were paying attention, they were already planting, exploring and pushing boundaries. Their obsession with Pinot Gris and Grigio is the reason those grapes matter in Australia today. Their home block in Balnarring has been growing since 1982. Their study trips to Collio, Alsace and the legendary Josko Gravner in Friuli shaped some of the most forward-thinking winemaking this country has ever seen. And now the next chapter belongs to Tom McCarthy, their son, who took over as head winemaker in 2019 and has been adding his own voice to this remarkable family story ever since.

This weekend we kick things off with a flight that lets the vineyards do the talking:

🍷 2024 Balnarring Vineyard Pinot Grigio
🍷 2025 Tussie Mussie Pinot Gris
🍷 2025 Campbell & Christine Pinot Noir
🍷 2025 Tussie Mussie Pinot Noir

Everything the residency includes this month:

✨ $20pp wine tastings, new flight each week
✨ Two Quealy wines by the glass, all month long
✨ 10% off all residency bottles every Sunday
✨ Dinner with the Winemaker on October 4th. More info to come!

This is Peninsula wine history on your table. Come find us in Dromana 🍷

By the glass: Rare Hare RosΓ©, 2024
By the bottle: Antonio Pinot Grigio, Delle Venezie DOC 2025

Hot Honey and Goat Cheese 🍯

If you're a Bodega regular, this plate is already on your favourites list.

New here? Let us tell you why it deserves your full attention.

A softly whipped layer of Meredith Dairy goat cheese, the snap of freshly cracked walnuts, a whisper of thyme, and then, poured tableside, a generous stream of hot honey cascading over the top.

The move: tear off a piece of warm, toasted bread and dip in. You will clean the plate.

And when it comes to the perfect pairing, Scott's recommendation is

By the glass: Young Tree Wines Marsanne 2025 or Nicola Bergaglio Gavi 2025.
By the bottle: Moorooduc Estate Pinot Gris, 2023

See you this weekend in Dromana 🍷✨

Week three of the residency and this one feels special πŸ‡

Until now we've been pouring from the extended range, and we've loved every sip. But this weekend we're going straight to the source. This flight is built almost entirely around LL Vineyard estate wines: the 11 hectares in Merricks North that started it all back in 1989. Hand tended by viticulturist Ant Davenport and made on site by winemaker Geraldine McFaul, these are the wines that sit at the very heart of what Rare Hare is about. Cool climate, Peninsula through and through, and made with the kind of quiet patience that you can taste in every glass.

This weekend's $20 tasting flight:

πŸ₯‚ Rare Hare Sparkling 2023
🍷 LL Vineyard Chardonnay 2024
🍷 LL Vineyard Pinot Noir 2024
🍷 RJ & CJ Vineyard Shiraz 2023

A quick reminder of everything the residency has on offer for the rest of August:

✨ $20pp wine tastings, with a fresh flight every week
✨ Two Rare Hare wines available by the glass all month long
✨ 10% off all residency wine bottles every Sunday
✨ Special Dinner with the Winemaker, Sunday 30th August, 6:30-8:30pm and The Bodega🍷
