Canberra's home of independent theatre. We hope that you'll come and join us, have a drink at the HUB PUB and enjoy the brilliant plays we have on offer.

ACT HUB is the home of three of Canberra's most respected theatre companies, Free Rain Theatre, Everyman Theatre and Chaika Theatre Company. Recipients of no less than 13 Canberra Critics Circle Awards between them - along with many other accolades - these artists have united under the ACT (Australian Capital Theatre) HUB banner to thrill, stimulate, challenge and entertain Canberra audiences. h the generous support from the ACT Government, Canberra has its first and only venue dedicated solely to producing independent theatre. Situated in the gorgeous heritage-listed Causeway Hall on the edge of Kingston and close to the popular foreshore, the ACT Hub team will bring patrons 6 plays per year from Australia and around the world, with the aim of telling great stories while utilising the talents of Canberra's best theatre practitioners. Additionally, with the creation of HUB TOO, emerging and developing local directors and artists will have support from the ACT Hub team with curated seasons chosen from submissions. Expert assistance and mentoring as well as in-kind support will allow new talent to create and showcase their work in a low-risk and nurturing environment. As Australia's capital, Canberra deserves to experience exciting, vibrant theatre and for it to be told by the brilliant array of talent this city has to offer.

Chaika Theatre presents a fresh, emotionally charged interpretation of Terence Rattigan’s THE DEEP BLUE SEA, a timeless exploration of love, loss, and personal struggle.

Set in the post-war austerity of 1950s London, the play follows Hester Collyer, a woman trapped in a turbulent affair with a passionate but troubled ex-fighter pilot, while grappling with the devastating consequences of her emotional isolation.

This new production breathes life into Rattigan’s masterpiece, with a bold, modern sensibility and intimate staging that captures the raw complexity of human relationships.

With powerful performances and a delicate balance between despair and resilience, Chaika Theatre’s THE DEEP BLUE SEA is a poignant journey into the heart of a woman’s battle for self-liberation.

Meet the storytellers bringing INTO THE WOODS to life as the grand finale to our May 2026 fundraising campaign.

We are so lucky to have these 16 experienced local performers working intensively during a deliberately short rehearsal period to create the memorable characters and heartfelt moments of INTO THE WOODS.

Through simple and evocative staging, our intimate theatre will become the woods, our storytellers will take their scripts to the stage, and our audiences will feel part of the story as the magic of complex music, remarkable vocals and familiar stories combine for three very special performances only.

ACT Hub, Chaika Theatre, and Everyman Theatre are holding open auditions to cast three productions in the ACT Hub 2026 Season.

PRODUCTIONS: Eureka Day, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and The Rivals.

Combined open auditions for all three productions will be held on Saturday 23 May 2026 at ACT Hub. Group auditions will be held in four time slots across the day.

The world is happening and it’s making things tight in the wallet, but you told us you want to attend both INTO THE WOODS and TRIVIA NIGHT. We get it, we do too!

So we’ve made the decision to reschedule TRIVIA NIGHT to Friday 7 August.
