It’s your last chance to join our November / December bookclub!

We only have 2 more spots left to join this month’s bookclub to read ‘Too Much Lip’ by Melissa Lucashenko.

You can be located anywhere in Australia to join and we meet every 6 weeks to discuss the book.

If you’re based in Adelaide, we have in-person meet-ups which are lots of fun. If you’re based somewhere else we meet up via Facebook Rooms and enjoy a glass of wine and good conversation.

The best part is, the next 2 ladies to join will receive a copy of this month’s book but ALSO last month’s book - ‘The Last Migration’.

Ever wondered what the process was to start putting pen and paper? 💡

Join me this Thursday night the 29th at 8pm AEST to chat to my funny, talented friend who is also published writer. We will attempt to do an IG live so I can interview Gabi about her journey so far.

Gabi is a Sydney-based writer who has had her work published both online and in print media. She currently writes a weekly blog for ‘Money Over 50’ Financial Advisers and has written 1.25 romance fiction novels (yet to be published). She hopes to walk into a bookstore in 2021 and see her two books on the shelf staring back at her.

BOOK REVIEW 📚

I’m at bit late to the party on this one. I read ‘The Vanishing Half’ back in August with the bookclub and it was a great read.

This was an excellent book with lots of unique themes around; race, gender diversity and identity.

It’s a story about twins, Desiree and Stella growing up in the mid 90s. The sisters have a pretty traumatic upbringing and witness their father being murdered. The town they grow up in is in the middle of nowhere and has systemic racism which impacts many areas of their lives.

The sisters end up running away from Mallard, Louisiana and start a new life in New Orleans. Stella ends up starting a new life without her sister and changes her entire identity but loses more than her identity in the long run.

A chance meeting between Stella and Desiree’s daughter, Jude, leads to many questions why Stella ran away from her old life completely.

The novel has a nonelinear narrative style

I gave this one 4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

BOOK REVIEW 📚

For our September bookclub we read ‘The Switch’ by Beth O’Leary. It was a funny, predictable novel about Leena and her grandmother Eileen.

The story starts off with Leena having a breakdown at work, which leads to her employer giving her extended leave. She decides to switch houses with her grandmother, who lives in a small English county town.

Eileen is the grandmother everyone wants to have. She adds value to everyone she meets and she’s a great connector of people. Eileen has recently separated with her husband and looking for adventures in London, and boy, does she have them.

The story touches on some big themes; loss, grief, love 💔 and reconciliation 👩‍❤️‍👩.

The Books and Bubbles bookclub voted and gave this novel 3.4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️

Our Oct/Nov bookclub registrations are now open. Yay! We have almost 30 ladies in our bookclub from all around Australia and are about to finish the book - ‘The Switch’ by Beth O’Leary.

Our next book will be announced tomorrow but I here are some clues:

1. It’s by an Australian author

2. It was released in August 2020

3. It’s a real page ‘Tern-er’ 🦅

4. The main character had some darkness in her past

5. It’s set in the future and many animal species have become instinct

Any ideas what our next book may be?
